The Only Way to go is Retro:

Janet Jackson

I don't think anyone isn't familiar with this talented American singer, songwriter, actress and of course sister to the late Michael Jackson and the youngest of the 10 Jackson children. She released her first album in 1982, but it wasn't until the release of her third album 'Control' in 1986 that she really came to everyones attention. This was her first album that didn't involve her family, and most prominently her father, who up until then had taken control of her career and involved other members of the family to assist on her previous 2 albums. It became her first album to top the Billboard 200 and five of its (classic) singles: "What Have You Done for Me Lately", "Nasty", "Control", "When I Think of You", and "Let's Wait Awhile" peaked within the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. Music videos created to promote the singles showed her dancing ability and became a catalyst for MTV's evolving demographics. The album went on to receive several accolades, including a nomination for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. It is listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 200 Definitive Albums of All Time. It has even been certified fivefold platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has sold over 14 million copies worldwide. Some album eh?! However, in September 1989, she released her fourth album, 'Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814' and I must admit this is my all time favourite. I used to play my cassette (no cds!) all the time and sing along to the tracks until it got chewed. One of my favourite songs on the album was 'Black Cat'. This album reached number 1 on the Billboard 200, and was later certified six times platinum and eventually sold over fourteen million copies worldwide, wow what an achievement. Janet was a star in her own right, who was certainly not in the shadow of her siblings and was a music force to be reckoned with.
