Ahhh 80s toys - the years where we struggled to complete the Rubiks Cube, spent hours lining up dominoes only to knock them back down again, bounced around on big space hoppers and got ourselves entangled with others in the name of fun - game of Twister anyone? My parents attic is an 80s treasure chest full of all my childhood toys, the joys I have dissappearing up there to go through them all. My Little Pony are all placed in their castle, my games are stacked high including Ker-Plunk, Lite Brite, Perfection, Ghost Castle (the skull glowed in the dark - how cool was that), hey I even had action figures (Transformers ruled) and cars! I wasn't a girly girl per se but I still haven't got over the fact that Santa never brought me my A La Carte kitchen, boo hoo, maybe it had something to do with me wanting to serve my dad cold baked beans and a swiss roll for breakfast in bed, what was wrong with that - she did it in the advert.
Computers were vastly different to what they are today, PacMan was THE arcade game to play and playing Space Invaders on the Atari came a close second, however to be honest I was more addicted to Paperboy - now that game was awesome. Annuals were also huge, I can remember having to have at least a few every Christmas, Eastenders, Grange Hilll and Play School ring a bell, maybe I should dig deeper in the attic to see if they are still there too, oooo what fun. Anyway please follow the below links to step back in time and enter the 80s toychest, see if you can find your favourites. I have also included toys that were not strictly 80s but they were widely available and popular throughout the decade and they deserve a mention.
