The 80s was the decade of winning cheap carriage clocks, TV sets, holidays and more tacky stuff if you were lucky all presented by either scantily clad models or conveyor belts. During the mid 80s we also saw the rebirth of live event television, light entertainment filled with lots of humour and plenty of gunge. We had the new, fresh and unique presenting style of Michael Barrymore bringing a new slant to the game show genre as well as shows presented by some of the greats such as Leslie Crowther, Bob Monkhouse, Bob Holness and of course the 80s wouldn't have been the same without good ole Cilla. Chat Shows were all the rage with Terry Wogan, Michael Parkinson and of course Michael Aspel all in on the fun. Overall the gameshow and reality (including musical and talent shows) genre promoted fun as well as seriousness, it was a time when you could sit down on a Saturday night and watch the entertainment being broadcast, a time when family telly night meant just that, where you would all enjoy the same shows due to their diversity. The good old days indeed.
