Hart to Hart (1979-1984) Our Rating: 3/5
Created By: Sidney Sheldon Starring: Robert Wagner, Stefanie Powers and Lionel Stander
This American TV series was extremely popular and starred Robert Wagner and the lovely Stefanie Powers as married couple Jonathan and Jennifer Hart. The Harts were wealthy and Jonathan was the CEO of his own Company, Hart Industries. Jennifer was a freelance journalist. In the episodes they got involved as amateur detectives in crimes such as murder, theft, espionage and much more. They were always getting into some sort of trouble as they tried to solve each case, and yes you can guess it, they always got their man! They were assisted in their adventures by Max, their extremely loyal butler/chef/chauffeur (played by gravelly voiced Lionel Stander). They also had a fabulous dog called Freeway. The chemistry between the Harts was obvious and you could see that they were very much in love. I never missed an episode, it was compulsive viewing! The Hart's ranch-style house originally belonged to 'Dick Powell', an old friend of Wagner's, and was situated in Mandeville Canyon, Los Angeles. The last Hart-to-Hart movie aired on Aug 25 1996, exactly 17 years, to the date, of the airing of the pilot movie. In November 1981, Wagner and Powers each lost their significant others: actors Natalie Wood and William Holden, respectively. Sidney Sheldon had originally written a script for CBS called "Double Twist" about a married couple who were also both spies. Aaron Spelling and 'Leonard Goldberg' decided to update the idea for a potential television series. They asked Tom Mankiewicz to update the script, to make it more contemporary and viable for a potential weekly series. Mankiewicz reworked Sheldon's original script and it was renamed "Hart To Hart". Mankiewicz also made his directorial debut with the pilot episode as planned, and remained a "Creative Consultant" on the series.
